Or maybe you say…”laisser le bon rouleau de temps” today, Fat Tuesday. Whatever language you use for “let the good times roll” today is a party day all over the world. Here at the Elmwood Park Public Library is no exception. The Youth Services staff loves to celebrate Mardi Gras! You are picturing hurricanes, parades and what people do to get beads…and wondering how that happens in a library? We have the best g-rated family friendly Mardi Gras party. There are beads, and kids can wear costumes for our parade and we get the best homemade Kings cake ever. Plus the kids learn about this crazy holiday. If you are in the neighborhood about 4:30 today stop by and be a part of our celebration!

Cold and snow. We shouldn’t be surprised, but it still makes news. We have books (large type, on cds, playaways and digital) to curl up with or the latest DVDs to watch. YOu can stay warm and entertained or informed.
We have some ambitious plans for the next year. We talked this week about adding some fun comfortable seating for our smaller patrons. The Friends of the Library this week gave us the funds to purchase a hexagon shaped conversation “pit” for toddlers. I can’t wait to see the kids use it.

Happy Twenty Twelve
Or do you say Two thousand twelve? Either way, welcome to a new year. We have a lot of new things planned for implementation at the library this year. Mobile apps like Boopsie and more ebooks. We just purchased a whole collection of travel books you can download to your smart phone. Much better than dragging the heavy book around with you on vacation! It is an exciting time for public libraries. I know people say we aren’t needed because “everything is on the internet”, but our free access to information, education and recreation makes us a vital part of our community!
